The slow and steady approach is not only the best, but crucial because we must act now to stop our dangerous slide to the point of no return. For example, we’re already seeing a rise in gas prices. It may be easier to get in the habit of using your bike or the bus for transporation now, rather than waiting until you can’t afford to fill up your tank. And if you start adopting green habits, you’ll realize it’s not as much of a sacrifice as you thought. Sometimes the modern world and technology makes us MORE stressed out and busy, and takes us away from the soothing effects of Mother Nature. Just try changing one habit for now, and see what you think.

Is this “Pledge” thing really going to make an impact? Are people REALLY going to follow through?

Ans.
If a tree fell down in a forest, but no one was around to hear it, did it still make a noise? Thousands of people (not just the lucky ones who visit this site) are already making their own pledges and sticking to them. They’re just being quiet about it, and not shouting out to their neighbors, “Hey, I just installed a low-flush toilet!” (We’d be quiet, too.) Even if people don’t do the pledge when they promised to, it at least gets them thinking about being Green. Research shows that a person has to see a message an average of seven times before they change their behavior! (We think it might be seventy times for those who hold public office.)

Our Writers have been published at high-profile companies such as CNN, Mad Magazine, and the Chicago Tribune. Our YouTube Celebrities have millions of fans, and have offered their kind support to this site by creating custom videos asking their viewers to join our weekly Pledge. We couldn’t have accomplished the LayZGreenPeople mission without them!

I keep hearing about “Carbon Credits”. What are those and why don’t you offer any?

When you flip a light switch, get on a plane, or drive a few miles in your car, you’re contributing to the emission of greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide. How much you contribute is known as your carbon footprint. Carbon credits are a way to make that footprint smaller by offsetting those emissions. For example, let’s say that you flew to Rome last summer to visit your aunt Louise. (Isn’t it funny that you never thought to visit her when she lived in Detroit?) Your roundtrip flight would cover about 12,000 miles, and your share of the total carbon dioxide emitted would be about 2 tons. You could, if you chose to, offset those emissions by contributing money to organizations that support carbon-reducing projects like clean energy development or reforestation. Lots of effective organizations out there are doing a great job of reducing greenhouse gasses. We may offer them in the future, but for now our focus is to get lazy green people together, and promote self action!
