Unplug and Unwind!

Week 3: Unplug all unused Appliances

Remember the energizer bunny? He’s in a rabbit nursing home now, worn out from too much activity of the electronic kind. If your computer never gets a break, it will likely suffer from a shortened lifespan, so shut it down and unplug it when you’re not using it, or at least before you go to bed each night. If you’re on it so much that you don’t want to shut it down, just turn off your monitor (because nobody’s screensaver is all that exciting). It’s a good idea to do the same with your phone charger, too, so it won’t succumb to a similar fate and leave your cell phone with low power while you’re in the middle of a promising conversation.

Extending the life of your appliances means that fewer of them will end up in landfills, and that’s a good thing, because these dumping grounds for our cast-offs are being pushed to their limits by the 1609 pounds of trash that the average American generates each year.

As an added bonus, while you’re saving landfill space, you’ll save a few dollars on your next electric bill to boot.

Won’t you join us in this simple but effective pledge to Save Energy this month by "Unplugging Unused Appliances"? (Computer junkies take note: vacations from cyberspace can be fun.) Unplug for a while and experience a low-power high!
